Helping in our Community
An important ministry and help in our community is our day school. The school accommodates children ranging in age from 6 weeks to Pre-Kindergarten. It also hosts a before and after school program for children ages 5-10. All the activities of the church and school are open to both entities and it is not unusual to see the room full of school families side by side with parishioners for a casual Hot Dog Nite.
Our Trash and Treasure Resale Shop is a long-standing outreach for our church. Located in a separate building in the parking lot on Woodwind, this little shop was opened 26 years ago by a charter group of the women members of the church. It has become an important part of our ability to give back into the community in several ways. The patrons all feel they receive good value for little money, the sales staff receive joy from the gift of giving while helping those in need maintain their dignity. It is a winning situation for all involved.
In our community, several churches and synagogues have come together to form the Braes Interfaith Ministries (BIM). All of our immediate outreach for helping those in need of food and housing aid is done through BIM. This wonderful ministry has been around for many years and is housed at Willow Meadows Baptist Church. Monthly we send food items and monies to help in this much-needed ministry. Representatives from our church attend monthly meetings and volunteers work at the facility during the week. This has been a rewarding partnership for our church during our involvement.
